As I look at these photos, I remember what was happening outside of my windows.  I remember the state of my room and how Anastasia maneuvered to take these shots.  I remember the afternoon preceding and the evening following the shoot.  Of course pictures have a way of helping us remember a certain moment in time.  These portraits encapsulate even more layers than I could share of a very specific part of my life and all the feelings surrounding the transition.  In remembering what it felt like to sit for Anastasia, much about myself was highlighted for me beyond my physical form.

I didn’t know how I would look taking a semi-nude portrait or sitting on top of my pink piano.  I forfeited a lot of trust to Anastasia and her eye.  This was a trust earned by her observable ease with the camera and her stunning portfolio.  She can see beauty in form and, with this, she was able to guide me to sit into myself.  She could hold my awkwardness, laugh at my trepidation, see past the distracting jokes and help me find a rooted place in the midst of so much movement.  Above all, maybe I learned something about how to embrace my vulnerability.

I feel that we can all learn from Anastasia’s sassy confidence.  She honors the beauty in herself and sees it easily in others, captures it enthusiastically, and shares it boldly.  It is a gift if you can experience it for yourself.

This woman has put into words everything I am trying to say with my photographs.

For our first session Anastasia simply asked me to bring a few clothes I liked.I was 55, recently divorced, three children…still idealistic, always free spirited. It immediately occurred to me that Anastasia’s ways had nothing to do with artistic voyeurism. As she asked me not to pose but “to be “, a journey of self-discovery started only possible because Anastasia makes you feel safe , which allows you to peel off your inhibitions at the deepest levels….and then the miracle happens ….she captures like no one else that emotion you did not even know belonged to you….Her artistry is to make you feel like the artist, Her lens becomes a mirror of your inner self and when you look at the unbelievably beautiful photos of You that she presents to you, you realize that her immense talent has enabled you to feel  beautiful, real, alive …somehow invicible…
